Queenstown’s ultimate stargazing tour, departing daily. Queenstown Stargazing based in The Kawarau Gibbston Dark Sky Park, is one of New Zealand finest small group 360° stargazing tours, giving you ‘bang for your buck’ and not compromising on quality.

Discover the wonders of the night sky on our 1.5-hour experience, which includes 60 mins under the stars with a guide who knows the night sky intimately. We use unistellar smart telescopes and special astro-lasers for easy naked-eye viewing. Your guide will also take photos under the stars, which will be available for viewing and sharing online with friends.

Our ratio of telescopes to guests is 1:5, one of the lowest in New Zealand, so everyone will have plenty of time on the telescopes with your astronomy guide at hand to ensure your questions are answered.

Jane He

With over a decade of experience as a stargazing guide in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, Jane He is a passionate advocate for astronomy education and public outreach. Originally arriving in New Zealand in 2013, she discovered a deep fascination with the night sky and the wonders of the universe—a love that has shaped her career ever since.

Jane began her journey as an astronomy guide in the heart of Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park with Big Sky Stargazing. She later spent several years with Dark Sky Project, sharing the magic of the cosmos at the renowned Mt John Observatory and the Rehua Astronomy Centre. Along the way, she has also played a key role in mentoring and supporting new stargazing ventures, helping to inspire the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts.

Now based in Queenstown, Jane invites you to join her under the pristine skies of Gibbston Dark Sky Park. Through her guided experiences, she weaves together the science of the stars, the rich mythology of Māori astronomy, and humanity’s exciting future in space exploration. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned stargazer, Jane’s expertise and enthusiasm will leave you with a deeper connection to the universe above.

Small Group Magic

Each tour is limited to a small group, ensuring a relaxed, personal atmosphere where everyone gets involved, asks questions, and shares the joy of the stars.

Guided Cosmic Journey (30 mins)

Your evening begins with a captivating introduction to the night sky, delivered in both English and Mandarin.
Learn about constellations, planets, Māori star lore, the Southern Cross, and how ancient civilizations used the stars to navigate and tell time. We’ll also explore the latest discoveries in modern astronomy and the mysteries of deep space.

Telescope Sky Spotting & Astrophotography (30 Mins)

Then, peer deep into the heavens through our high-powered telescope to spot stars, planets, and galaxies.
Our guides will help you take stunning night sky photos—whether you’re capturing the Milky Way or a close-up of Saturn’s rings. It’s a hands-on, unforgettable experience that you’ll take home in both memory and pictures.

Souvenir Photos (30 Mins)

You’ll walk away with professional-quality photos of you under the stars, perfect for sharing with friends or as a special keepsake.

We can take a photo for you or we can also help you to use their own camera equipment so you can take your own photos.
